In Philippines, Boys Over Flowers has been aired twice by ABS-CBN. The story which is similar to the Taiwanese show "Meteor Garden" has also struck the kilig factor to the young Filipinos and even to the adults. No matter how many times it would show on television, surely it would watch by many viewers (even if it's replay). I like the character of Gu Jun Pyo, my ex is like him (Just Kidding :D). I have read on the net that BOF was also aired in different parts of the world including Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan and lots of.

I. Formal
-Plot
A Cinderella Story is a modernization of a classic Cinderella fairy tale. Sam is a cute yet nerdy high school senior in Princeton. At any legendary Cinderella story, she lives at her conceited stepmother and stepsisters. Sam is not treated like a member in a family; instead she is more as a servant. She depends on her job by dishwashing and scrubbing the floor in a restaurant, in order for her to support herself to stay in a prestigious school. Series of text messages and e-mails, Sam and the cyber friend develop a romance and promise each other to meet personally on one of the school’s event- homecoming dance. With the help of his geeky friend, Carter and a co-worker, Sam able to meet his online prince charming. As they meet face-to-face, Sam never expected to be his date would be the football captain and the student body president in the school, Austen. Sam does not want to reveal who she really is.

(Realistic Setting)
1. Sam’s Room is a reflection of her current situation. During Sam’s childhood days, his father would always tell her a fairy tale story on her tidy and peaceful room. While his father was still alive, she still had a very blissful life to live with. However, when he passed away, it turned out her room is dark and gloomy. And everything fell into pieces; she started to live with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Her current room turned into a maid’s room.
2. Diner is one of Sam’s best place where she is comfortable. She felt like at home at the diner even though she really have to work hard; mopping the floor, washing the plates and serving the customers, Her amazing and supportive friends can all be found here. They are like a big happy family. All the love, support and cheers could always feel by the protagonist in this setting.
3. School (Princeton University). As a high school student, she prioritizes to go to school. She is staying in a same school with her stepsisters. With his buddy mate, an artsy-nerdy friend, Carter helps her to appreciate the beautiful things to be enjoyed while in school. Ups and downs occurred in Sam’s existence. She might be bullied because of her nerdy look. But when one of the biggest school affairs happened- the ugly duckling turned into a swan. She meet her eyeball and date, surprisingly it was the school’s popular quarterback. The every girl’s dream guy in the campus was Austen Ames. The happily ever after started here.
•Costumes
1. Pink apron- To earn money and stay in school has been Sam’s dedication to work in the diner. When she is not in school, she is wearing the pink apron. That pink apron serves her other side of her, working student.
2. Blue shirts, blue cops, blue stuffs.. – Apparently, Sam’s clothes are almost painted blue. At the beginning of the story, when she was a child, she was wearing a blue top or blue jumper. While on her teen life, her shirt if not color blue, it has touch of blue on every scene. Color blue symbolizes the character of Sam that should not lose hope and she was able to attain peace with her relationship to her family and friends.
•Composition
The image in the movie is the typical or the standard shape. It is not formatted as widescreen but the whole picture can be seen
•Actors
Two dimensional
Samanthea Montgomery- The protagonist in the story whose life always maltreated by her stepmother and stepsisters. A student scholar and part-time student in a diner. She never asks anything to her stepmother. Being kindhearted and brave person will take her far.
Austin Ames- The cyber soul mate of Sam. Together with his father, they own a carwash. He is the high school’s well-known, hot and cute quarterback. He is the heartthrob and dream of the girls in the campus. Nomad was his alias chatting with Sam.
Fiona- The self-centered step mother of Sam. She is the antagonist in the story whose never ending orders and commands to her step daughter always prevail. A very arrogant woman whose priorities will give more to her daughter than Sam.
One dimensional
Gabriella and Rianna- Sam’s wicked and ugly stepsisters. They are older than Sam. They share the same school. They are both in love with the popular quarterback. They also reveal the true identity of Cinderella.
Carter- A cool nerdy friend of Sam in school who always gives support. They go to school together with Sam. During the dance, he kissed the cheerleader since he saved her from a rude guy.
Diner manager- The fairy godmother in the story who helps Sam to realize to be strong and fight for what she believes in. She helps to look for a dress in the homecoming dance. When Sam leaves her stepmother and stepsisters, she offered her to stay Sam with her.
Cheerleader- The former boyfriend of the popular quarterback. She was another arrogant person in the story.
Sam’s Father- Sam’s best friend. Sam feels like the happiest girl whenever she is with him. His father will always tell him fairy tale. And the father’s only dream to Sam- to go to college and put her own castle.

1. Foreground and Background
Sam’s playing baseball with Carter- She is playing baseball in the school’s field with her friend Carter. Behind his friend was Austen who also practicing. They are having a same topic for the upcoming school dance.



Rack Focus
Austen’s big game- Sam cannot stay longer in the game. But when Austen saw her leaving, he ran away from the field. He stops his game and come near to Sam. Everyone is calling him to go back to the game. Yet the rain suddenly fall.
2. Symmetrical and Asymmetrical compositions
Sam’s birthday (Early Years)- It was Sam’s birthday. As she blew the candles on her cake, while his father holding a camera to take a picture. Accidentally, a woman who was getting something on his bag fell on the lap of his father. This woman, became her stepmom.

-Lighting
1. Hard Lighting
(Bedrooms)
Sam’s childhood- The scene while his dad was telling a fairy tale on Sam’s bedroom. The lighting was quite dark. It is like something will happen. It was then an earthquake occurs.
Sam’s teenage- Her room which is like maid’s room. It’s very dark. Like her situation, she is treated her stepmom and stepsisters like a servant.
2. Soft Lighting
Sam’s outside the house- Every time Sam is outside the house, the lighting is bright. That means of have another brand new day. No matter how her wicked stepmother and stepsisters are, she still finds a way to brighten her day.

-Editing
Sam’s playing baseball- While she was in the field on her third attempt to hit the ball, it was her step mom’s face that showed clearly.
Sam’s childhood- During earthquake, Sam and his father’s scene which their hands drifted apart. That apparently his dad will leave away.


-Sound
1. Music (Soundtracks)
A Cinderella Story’s original soundtrack is a soundtrack album by the charcter herself, Hilary Duff. “Our Lips Sealed” sung with her sister and the high school’s homecoming dance sequence was the music of Iris.
2. Sound effects
The sound effects used are more like a fantasy at the beginning while Sam’s dad was alive. Then some which are connected to the scenes like in a school while they are playing baseball, the way it hits it the effect is played. The sound effects are not actually used unlike on other fantasy movies since it is more on modern tale of Cinderella.
